The Trump Tracker (June 8, 2025)

In 1964, Becket, starring Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole was released—the true story of the close friendship between a commoner Thomas Becket (Burton) and King Henry II (O’Toole). The King’s relationship with the current Archbishop of Canterbury sours, since the latter resents the monarch. Subsequently, desiring an ally in the Church, the King orchestrates an effort to make Becket the Archbishop. Alas, in time, Becket sides with the masses. Feeling betrayed, the enraged King slyly berates, “Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?” Becket is murdered. The King is crushed, for he didn’t realize how much he loved Becket. The grief-stricken King punishes himself by having the Saxon monks flog him till his skin peels off. Becket is a celluloid masterpiece with great dialogues and greater acting.

Watching the recent tiff between the two close friends, Trump and Musk, brought to mind the tragic story of Becket. Musk, like the King, is the richest man in the world today. And like the King, Musk helped in Trump’s reelection bid. Subsequently, Trump, loved by a majority, was voted to serve the country. And Musk now had an ally in the WH. But Trump chose to help the people that put him in office over his friend’s demand to modify the Big Beautiful Bill. We’re witnessing the fallout as a result.

America needs the Rocket Man and the Orange Man. They both have sacrificed much of their personal lives (like the King and Becket) to help Americans. Perhaps, England’s history might have turned out differently and better if Henry II and Becket had remained friends, despite their differences.

Let’s hope Trump and Musk forgive each other quickly. How could America attain peace with its adversaries if two of the greatest Americans in modern times, God forbid, are unwilling to call a truce?

Mr. Trump, you’re also Mr. Musk’s president. And so, you must take the high road, like you often do, to reach out to him. Invite him back to the WH for a movie night. Watch Becket! You both will shed a tear, as two brilliant actors lay bare the souls of the characters they portray.

President Trump & Mr. Musk, to think is to differ; that’s why it’s difficult for some of us to take sides in this unfortunate rift, since both of you have valid points on the issue that caused the divide. All decent Americans will applaud–much to the dismay of the Democrats–if you sacrificed the lesser (your egos) for the greater (a glorious future for America).

Let’s see you shake hands in public. America desperately needs your wisdom and singular talents to succeed, during these uncertain and dangerous times.
